If you want to get away from the hustle & bustle of Hong Kong, or even Shenzhen, Zhongshan is the place to be. It is much more quiet, green and laid-back than other coastal areas of China.
The club runs a shuttle bus service at Zhongshan Terminal club but it’s limited at certain hours only, you are advised to call and check with the club first.
If you take a taxi, the ride will take about 20″ and cost around 45 RMB.
A longer taxi ride (45″) will be required from JiuZhou costing 140 RMB by meter or 120 if you negotiate.
Club Facilities & Service
In a word: excellent. The Clubhouse is extremely well-equipped and, unlike many, it is also tastefully decorated.
A new hotel is completed which is connected to the clubhouse and no doubt graded 5 stars. Again, it is well decorated and provide services like coffee cafe, red wine room, cigar room, sauna massage, karoake nightclub, fitness centre, outdoor swimming pool. The spacious and trendy rooms(1, 2) are comfortable and nice looking.
Fairway & Green maintenance
Both were exemplary, greens & fairways are meticulously maintained with excellent landscaping.
This is a soft spike only course.
Caddy Service & knowledge
If you’re playing this place for the first time it’s worth asking the caddie master for a really good caddie – the severity of the doglegs could leave you puzzled on the tee. I was lucky on this occasion as mine could speak comparatively good English. Not only did she say the usual “Good shot”, “Bunker”, etc, she even managed “Hmm, a bit too much club there” and “Waah, how come you didn’t slice that time?”
A Course : The A Course is built upon rolling hills and offers breathtaking views. The fairways are greatly influenced by the hilly terrain and some of them have massive swings to left or right and even up and down. The front nine definitely suits players who draw the ball as the majority of holes are dogleg lefts. There are quite a few elevated tees and while the fairways are relatively generous, getting the ball on the correct side of them gives you a huge advantage for your second shot.
Many of the greens are very big and feature multiple tiers that can be extremely difficult to judge.
The front nine is an extremely beautiful stretch of holes and because of the number of doglegs it is also the more difficult.
B Course : The B course is completely different style with A course while it appears flatter with wider fairways but longer in length. Long hitters definitely earn some advantage as most Par 4 exceeds 400 yards. Bunkers play a large factor , they are perfectly positioned to penalize off track shots. And not difficult to see deep and powder like greenside bunkers which mean your ball will be easily buried, could be very nasty though. Greens are average in size and generally flat.
Overall, this is one beautiful place. It’s without doubt one of the best courses in the Pearl River Delta (maybe even in China) and combined with the facilities offered it makes an ideal destination for a couple of days or more.
Hole 1 Par 4 Index 11 Gold 398 Blue 373 White 330 Red 290
Dogleg left, a generous opening hole especially when you are not yet warm up or still not recover from sea sick
Hole 2 Par 4 Index 9 Gold 425 Blue 400 White 385 Red 301
Severly downslope teeshot, with water on left and bunker on right. The not so big green is protected by water in front and bunker on left.
Hole 3 Par 3 Index 7 Gold 200 Blue 182 White 164 Red 120
Absolutely beautiful hole! Mid long range down slope teeshot.
Hole 4 Par 4 Index 1 Gold 450 Blue 410 White 380 Red 288
Down slope teeshot, this hole stretches to left. A draw ball would be perfect.
The fairway slope downward to green.
Hole 5 Par 4 Index 5 Gold 382 Blue 377 White 337 Red 249
Sharp left turning downhill hole, require reasonable distance so as to open the green.
Hole 6 Par 5 Index 13 Gold 460 Blue 440 White 350 Red 258
The distance might looks reachable in two. The fairway slope upward to green.
Hole 7 Par 3 Index 15 Gold 185 Blue 168 White 135 Red 76
Downslope mid range Par 3
Hole 8 par 4 Index 3 Gold 472 Blue 432 White 379 Red 325
Dogleg left downslope tee shot, need accurate distance and direction to aviod bunkers.
Hole 9 Par 5 Index 17 Gold 553 Blue 533 White 486 Red 445
This beautiful Par 5 is a dogleg left. Fairway split into two, reachable by
two if you go for left. A reasonable long drive will leave you around 180
yards to green. But mind you, the green is secured by water in front.
Hole 10 Par 4 Index 8 Gold 438 Blue 410 White 386 Red 352
Straight hole, green protected by bunkers on three sides.
Hole 11 Par 4 Index 4 Gold 448 Blue 408 White 356 Red 323
The most tough shot is the approaching. Tight entrance and deep bunker.
Hole 12 Par 3 Index 16 Gold 146 Blue 132 White 88 Red 76
An easy short par 3score.
Hole 13 Par 5 Index 2 Gold 595 Blue 575 White 548 Red 526
Tough hole, need both accurate distance and direction for teeshot. Fairway then stretches up slope. Par is a very good score.
Hole 14 Par 4 Index 14 Gold 383 Blue 356 White 336 Red 313
Dogleg left, aim as left as you can, you will be rewarded with a shorter second shot.
Hole 15 Par 4 Index 6 Gold 398 Blue 373 White 352 Red 330
Dogleg left, downhill teeshot follow by upslope approaching.
Hole 16 Par 4 Index 10 Gold 418 Blue 396 White 353 Red 266
The first appearance of dogleg right. Reasonable driving is required plus avoid bunkers.
Hole 17 Par 3 Index 18 Gold 175 Blue 158 White 116 Red 90
Mid range Par 3 with elevated green
Hole 18 Par 5 Index 12 Gold 540 blue 520 White 500 Red 460
I reckon this is most beautiful hole. A dogleg right , down hill teeshot. Tight fairway for second shot.
A straight hole, both shots need to avoid bunkers especially greenside.
Tight entrance, could be troublesome if fall into bunker
Diection and distance determine your landing point. If you are aint long hitter, try aim between the bunkers.
The fairway goes slightly upward to green.
Pretty tough hole. Fairway is tight but you need reasonable driving distance. Otherwise, you will leave
yourself a tough second shot for which you need to clear water. Green is like a peninsula surrounded by water
on 3 sides.
Water and bunkers protected the green. The situation will be even worse if the pin placed on right.
The fairway is straight and bunkers appear whenever you want to put the ball to.
Downslope teeshot, keep away from bunkers. Then approach to the elevated green for which guarded by deep
bunkers on left front & back.
The fairway going up then downslope. The landing area is not wide though not tight. Beware of the scare
A short Par 4, again, keep way from bunkers.
Hole 10 Par 4 Index 16 Gold 432 Blue 408 White 357 Red 349
Long dogleg left. Generous fairway. Whack it！
Upslope fairway, long is the main issue. .
Loooong Par 3, keep away from those terrifying bunkers is the priority.
Had enough bunkers？ here comes again.
Finally here comes a short one！
Wide fairway with less hazards. Green is guarded by bunkers on both sides.
Dogleg left. wide fairway, elevated green guarded by bunkers. .
Long par 3 plus factors of water and buinkers .
Nice hole, the fairway split into two by a stream, you may either choose right of left route .
I thoroughly enjoyed my round and just love the design and the surrounding of the course. It’s beautiful and quiet – it’s also right next to Chang Jiang Reservoir which happens to be one of best scenic spots in Zongshan. The developer must have spent a lot of time and effort in securing this beautiful piece of land.
Be aware though that you have to pay a large deposit upon checking in – make sure that you bring ample cash or that your credit card hasn’t been maxed out!
