Review Summary:

Though the course was designed by same person - Les Watts, unlike Noble Merchant Golf Club, Green Bay do have sufficient land provided, the setup is more interesting indeed. The envirnoment is getting mature though you may see a few blocks of factories in a couple of holes.......

Introduction

This is one of the closest club to Hong Kong, it takes only 30 minutes from Huanggang border. The travel time could be shorten to 20 minutes if you travel from the new Shenzhen Bay border. The course was designed by the same designer as Noble Merchant Golf Club – Les Watts. 18 holes night golfing is also available daily.

Club Facilities & Service

The clubhouse is considered to be huge for just an 18 holes course where you can find coffee cafe, Western restaurant, Chinese restaurant, proshop, changing room, hotel rooms. Sauna Massage is also available at another complex. Staffs are nice and cheerful.

Fairway & Green maintenance

GreenBay-ConditionThe lately condition is average except the green which is nice. Normal maintanence procedure carry out on front nine’s teeboxes which means they are quite sandy.

Caddy Service & knowledge

No complaint, nice and helpful.

Course Design

GreenBay-Course-Design
There is more change of elevation at front nine, combined with dogleg holes, straight holes, island green, short or long fairway, you name it you got it. The huge dogleg #9, index two is really challenging, direction and length is equally important, bogey is considered to be a good score.

Water appears more frequently on back nine, course built on a gentle rolling terrain except the last two holes.
Some Par4’s are crazy long (470 + yards from gold), green in regulation is almost impossible for recreational golfers unless you are big big hitters.

Recently, an island green is added to hole #2 which is fun to play.

  • GreenBay-H1-1
Starting with a short Par 5 which is reachable ……. in theory. Off the tee, there you’ll find OB on the right and a pond on the left

    GreenBay-H1-2 GreenBay-H1-3 GreenBay-H1-4

  • GreenBay-H2-1
Short downslope Par 4, there are two greens, one is at the end of the fairway (reachable by big hitters) and the other one is on the right which is an island green.
    GreenBay-H2-2 GreenBay-H2-3 GreenBay-H2-4
  • GreenBay-H3-1
Another reachable Par 5 if you dare to aim left (right of the lamp post), you may gain some distance by rolling as it is going downslope which will leave you around 200 yards to the green.
    GreenBay-H3-2 GreenBay-H3-3 GreenBay-H3-4
  • GreenBay-H4-1
Upslope Par 3 surrounded by bunkers
    GreenBay-H4-2
  • GreenBay-H5-1

A demanding dogleg left Par 4. The landing area is tight. Short – you wouldn’t see the green, Left – there are bunker and bushed, right – rough plus uneven lie, too much right will even get wet.

    GreenBay-H5-2 GreenBay-H5-3

  • GreenBay-H6-1
Short downslope Par 3, mind you this is a tricky green.
    GreenBay-H6-2
  • GreenBay-H7-1
Try to aim left for your teeshot (Of course avoid the wet stuff) in order to have an easier 2nd shot which needs to carry over the lake.

  • GreenBay-H8-1
    Mid Long Par 3
    GreenBay-H8-2
  • GreenBay-H9-1

Index 2, a true tough hole. The only chance to get regular on is drive 220 -230 to the left (infront of the bunker). 2nd shot requires carry 190 – 200 yards over the lake to green. If you teeoff to the right, 3 on is not really bad at all.
    GreenBay-H9-2 GreenBay-H9-3

  • GreenBay-H10-1
Index One, the fairway get tighter as it goes further. Next shot require whole carry to the green. Scarey!
    GreenBay-H10-2 GreenBay-H10-3
  • GreenBay-H11-1
Straight Par 5 with plenty bunkers lying on the fairway.
    GreenBay-H11-2 GreenBay-H11-3 GreenBay-H11-4
  • GreenBay-H12-1
Short Par 4, shouldn’t be a problem unless you are really wild.
    GreenBay-H12-2 GreenBay-H12-3
  • GreenBay-H13-1
Loooong Par 4 dogleg left. Aim right over the bunker, too much left will leave you longer distance to green.
    GreenBay-H13-2
    微微上斜
    GreenBay-H13-3
  • GreenBay-H14-1
A long Par 4 again. Dogleg right, aim left as much as you can. Too right will leave you super long 2nd shot.
    GreenBay-H14-2 GreenBay-H14-3
  • GreenBay-H15-1
    Long Par 3
    GreenBay-H15-2
  • GreenBay-H16-1
Short hitter aim for blue arrow, long hitter aim for yellow arrow(cary 230 yards), red arrow is where the green is.
    GreenBay-H16-2 GreenBay-H16-3
  • GreenBay-H17-1
Down slope mid range Par 3
    GreenBay-H17-2
  • GreenBay-H18-1
A reachable Par 4, scoring hole.

007’s Rating

Though the course was designed by same person – Les Watts, unlike Noble Merchant Golf Club, Green Bay do have sufficient land provided, the setup is more interesting indeed.

The envirnoment is getting mature though you may see a few blocks of factories in a couple of holes.
Also, due to the construction of highway to Bo An airport, views of holes #10 & #18 are slightly affected.

18 holes night golfing is also available everyday which means it is possible to teeoff after work if you are in real desperate.
