Siem Reap is widely renowned as the gateway to Angkor Wat, the millennium-old temple ruins of the Khmer Empire. Set along the Siem Reap River, this small provincial capital boasts hundreds of sightseeing opportunities such as well-preserved colonial buildings, unique museums, traditional markets, cultural performances, and verdant parks. This small but lively town close to the northern shore of Tonle Sap Lake has seen phenomenal growth as a tourist destination in recent years, and now offers all the facilities expected by experienced world travellers.
Golf Courses Introduction:
Siem Reap Phokeethra Country Club
The Sofitel-managed Phokeethra Country Club, Angkor Wat, adds to the world class golf now available in Cambodia. The golf course hosted the 2009 Johnnie Walker Classic and 2010 Cambodian Open.
A combination of Paspalum grasses are used on both fairways and greens, which gives the golf course its deep green color and insures a high standard of course conditions all year round. The 7,145-yard, 18-hole course reflects Phokeethra Country Club’s dedication to creating an exclusive golfing experience.
Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club
The Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club (formerly Siem reap Lake Golf Resort) was the third international standard golf course to be opened in Angkor Wat. The $150 million US dollar course took 1 year to construct and is located only 6 kilometers from the center of Siem Reap town.
The course was designed by Kentaro Sato, the well-known Japanese golf course designer. No expense has been spared making the Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club the largest Angkor Wat golf complex. Several high profile local tournaments have been held at the course including visits by dignitaries such as the Cambodian prime minister.
Angkor Golf Resort
The world class Faldo designed Angkor Golf Resort is the best golf course in Cambodia and by a wide margin. The six-time major winner Nick Faldo himself, received a blessing from local monks and then opened the golf course in December 2007, his first golf course in Cambodia. The Angkor Golf Resort brings Cambodia squarely onto international golf destination map.
Tess, fairways, and greens are all maintained as what you would expect from a Faldo designed and IMG managed golf course. The latest Paspalum turf insures excellent year-round playing conditions.
