Introduction

Dali is an ancient city since Tang Dynasty, over 1000 years, some buildings still well maintained.

Dali is not a huge place, surrounded by 19 mountains and a large lake.

Pity is that there isn’t direct flight from HK nor Shenzhen. The best way is to take flight to Kunming then take another half an hour domestic flight to Dali or flu to Lijiang from Shenzhen, then take a 3.5 hour ride to Dali.

The club was opened at October 2005, and is the first golf club in Dali.

Club Facilities & Service

The small temporary club house equipped with changing room, restaurant, proshop is originally the driving range, though small but neat and tidy.;the driving range(1, 2, 3, 4) is absolutely perfect with an excellent breath taking view. The restaurant only provides local food which might not fit most of us. But the staff’s service is good.

Fairway & Green maintenance

DaliStoneMountain-Green-1
The course condition is closed to perfect. The green is soft enough that you can still hold the green with mid iron.

Caddy Service & knowledge

Not bad for a new course.

Course Design

The course is built along the mountain with many elevation, doglegs and plenty of bunkers. Due to quite windy, the club filled the bunkers with some heavy grey sand. But dont get e wrong, it is not rock hard type and very acceptable.
Take a look at this runway alike tee box, very amazing! The 18th Hole tee box is impressive with the nice view too.

A downhill opening Par 5, there are two distance off the blue tee, beware OB at the right. Very narrow entrance to the elevated green.

  • DaliStoneMountain-H2-1Slightly downhill teeshot, 200 yards over the bunker, green is well guarded by bunkers on both sides.
    DaliStoneMountain-H2-2 DaliStoneMountain-H2-3

  • DaliStoneMountain-H3-1
Long straight Par 4, a creek kying infront of the green, 2 on, certainly not easy!
    DaliStoneMountain-H3-2 DaliStoneMountain-H3-3

  • DaliStoneMountain-H4-1
Long Par 3, not much room of error
    DaliStoneMountain-H4-2

  • DaliStoneMountain-H5-1
Another long fairway, feel tired? dogleg Par5 , a stream cut across the fairway infront of the green.
    DaliStoneMountain-H5-2 DaliStoneMountain-H5-3 DaliStoneMountain-H5-4

  • DaliStoneMountain-H6-1
Dogleg right, water not really in play, slightly uphill for second shot.
    DaliStoneMountain-H6-2 DaliStoneMountain-H6-3

  • DaliStoneMountain-H7-1
Short Par 3, the main concern is the long and narrow green which is guarded by 3 big bunkers.
    DaliStoneMountain-H7-2

  • DaliStoneMountain-H8-1
A perfect long tee shot will let the ball roll down hill, the green is relatively tight.
    DaliStoneMountain-H8-2 DaliStoneMountain-H8-3

  • DaliStoneMountain-H9-1
A generous fairway. Second shot need to get over the creek.
    DaliStoneMountain-H9-2 DaliStoneMountain-H9-3

  • DaliStoneMountain-H10-1
Another Long Par 5, fortunately, it’s downhill. Mind you Ob on the right and lost ball on the left. Again, a stream cut through the fairway before the green

Finally saw a short downhill Par4, 210yards to the front water.

  • DaliStoneMountain-H14-1
Slightly dogleg left, very difficult approaching
    DaliStoneMountain-H14-2 DaliStoneMountain-H14-3

  • DaliStoneMountain-H15-1
A loooong par4 again, relatively tight landing area.
    DaliStoneMountain-H15-2 DaliStoneMountain-H15-3

  • DaliStoneMountain-H16-1
Uphill Par4, carry 200 yards over bunker
    DaliStoneMountain-H16-2 DaliStoneMountain-H16-3

  • DaliStoneMountain-H17-1 DaliStoneMountain-H17-2

  • DaliStoneMountain-H18-1
Downhill ending Par 4, landing area looks very tight, green well secured by three bunkers

007’s Rating

I’m impressed. This is a good course with excellent conditions, intersting layout and perfect views. The only draw back is that they are now carrying some real estate contructions which affected the scenery. The club is still busy in completing the gardening(1, 2) . I can foresee the course will be even more beautiful when completed. Mind you, the blue tee is super long – 7003 yards, could be a diaster !think twice before you teeoff at the blue.

As a conclusion, I found Dali is quite an interesting place with its long history. And the weather is just as perfect as Kunming , cool and dry. Definitely a good choice for summer vacation.
