Introduction
This is my second visit to Guilin (the 1st was in 06, playing Twinpeak & Merryland), it was such an enjoyable trip that I decided to bring my family along this time due to Merryland’s facilities & it’s theme park (for my kid…and me to play) in addition of doing some sightseeing & of course, check out the newly built Course C (completed in 08). For those with small kids & elderly, great news, the resort can provide you with a service staff to look after your young children and elderly during your round or take them to the theme park so that you can play with an ease of mind.
Club Facilities & Service
As mentioned, the hotel has a lot of facilities and is of good standard. Lobby 、room, foot massage & sauna、nightclub and even a department store, all under one roof….great!
The golf club house is a short drive away and is relatively small but still nicely decorated with basic stuff as such a decent lobby, proshop, driving range, restaurant & locker. During my stay, both the club & hotel’s service were very good.
Fairway & Green maintenance
My last round was in Summer but this time is Xmas and cold, all the burmuda on the fairways all went dormant but the teebox & greens are Tif Eagle and is able to make its beautiful deep emerald green, a great contrast and very pleasing to the eyes.

Caddy Service & knowledge
Played 3 rounds with 3 different caddies, all were pretty good.
Course Design
Very similar to Course A & B, the fairways of C are fairly wide and forgiving fairways but not as rolling making the stance a touch easier and but C has a bit more elevations changes & a couple of big dogleg holes which are more fun to play. The greens are bit more tricky with more slopes and tiers, bunkers are equipped with really soft sand, any high shots ended up in the bunkers will most likely be buried so avoid them at all cost. The distance from the white tee (it has 2…from 2,996 or 3,267 yards, if you want to have more challenge, the back tee (blue) is 3,527 yards).
I personally like the # 19 & # 27, both are dogleg holes, very pretty & great fun to play.
Check out the 2 story Midway house, amazing!
Photos
(Photos on course A & B were taken in April 06, course C is taken in Dec 09)
Course A:
-
The 1st hole is a short one, so that you can warm up.
-
Big dogleg left, teeshot is down slope, the approach is slightly uphill.
-
Tee shot is downslope, a straight forward par 5.
-
A long hole going upslope all the way.
-
A long par 3, playing slightly uphill with bunkers on front left & right.
-
A short hole but will need to carry some water.
-
A slightly upslope par 4.
-
A downhill par 3 with an elevated green.
-
Medium to short par 4, the approach is slightly downhill.
-
A short par 5, straight forward hole going slightly upslope.
-
A down slope dogleg right, check your distance or you will overshoot the fairway, longer & gutsy hitter can lean to the right to cut distance to the green.
the approach will need to carry water.
-
A short par 5, need to carry some water, both left & right is OB.
-
A medium to long par 3, water is on the right.
-
A slightly upslope par 4, the approach is down slope with water on the right of the green.
-
A long par 4, water is on the right, going up all the way…. a tough hole.
-
A beautiful signature par 4, water is front & on the left (you can take the sampan to cross the lake after teeshot), the approach needs to carry water too….a tough hole!
-
A nice looking but tough hole, the peninsula green with water all round, choose the right club & pray.
-
The finishing hole is a long par 4 with water on the left.
-
Big dogleg to the right, teeshot is downhill, the green is very narrow.
-
The 20th is a par 3, from the blue is 177, white is 167 or 140, red is 121 yards.
-
The teeshot is straight forward, the 2nd is down slope with water on the right & front.
-
This hole has water all round, the 1 & 2nd shot will have water on the right side, the approach has water on the left & front. A fun hole to play.
-
This is a long par 3, downslope with water on the right all the way.
-
This a quite straight forward hole, the green has couple of tiers making it much hard to putt.
-
Need to have a nice teeshot to clear water in front, the green is relatively small.
-
Long hitter beware of water on the left(water), the 2 & 3rd is uphill.
-
This is a big downhill dogleg right, you can cut the corner to make the approach shorter (consult your caddie). The green has few tiers…..difficult to putt.
