Introduction
The last time I was here was in 2006 when the club only had 18 holes known as Rainbow Valley. I was invited back by the club with few golf media & celebrities to try out the new golf course Jade Valley, the brand new phase 3 hotel as well as some sight seeing.
With the opening of the Jade Valley course in 08, the club now boasts two 18 hole golf course, and I was told that 2 more golf course will be built within the next 3 years, a total of 72 holes, making the club the largest in this region, cool!
Club Facilities & Service
Our group stayed at the new phase 3 hotel throughout our stay, both the design & facilities are very nice & the rooms are better than I expected, the service of the staff were ok too, if they were a bit more attentive, it would be prefect 🙂
Fairway & Green maintenance
The course only competed a few months (early 08) before we came, it will take a little while to mature, having said that, the course condition was not bad.
Caddy Service & knowledge
Service was good but need few more months to know the course more.
Course Design
This Jade Valley measuring a respectable 6,727 yards from the blue while the white tee is bit friendlier at 6,206 yards but due to its fairly tight layout, accuracy is important and you have to navigate your shot around the course to avoid those massive fairway & deep green side bunkers, greens are relatively small, very undulating and most are elevated making them difficult to land, if you are unfamiliar with the course, move to the white tee & familiarize the course before you move back.

-
The opening hole is relatively short par 5, the green is elevated.
-
This is a tough dogleg left par 4, going slightly uphill & the green is well guarded by front left bunkers.
- A pretty downslope par 3, the elevated green is surrounded by bunkers.
-
A big dogleg left to a tough elevated green.
-
This is one of the few with a flat fairway, have to navigate carefully to avoid those massive bunkers.
-
Very tough par 4, water on the left, have to have 2 good shots to be able to land on this green.
-
This par 3 is slightly downhill, need to carry all the way the the green which is guarded by deep front & back bunkers.
-
A tough but fun hole, gentle dogleg to the right and water right, this green is a peninsular, a good approach is required to carry the water in front.
-
This hole is similar to the 8th but water is the left on this one.
-
The big fairway bunkers are here to catch your less than well struck shot, the tee shot is gently downhill but the 2nd & approach are going uphill.
-
A downhill par 3 with an elevated green.
-
A straight forward par 4, the green is well protected by bunkers though.
-
This par 3 is slightly downslope.
-
The landing area on this hole is quite narrow….good luck.
-
The landing area of this par 5 is reasonability wide, the 2nd is blind and need to avoid a small creek which cut across the fairway, the green is small and very elevated.
-
Water on the left, going uphill all the way, a hard one.
-
A fairly straight forward par 4, the approach is downslope, make sure you have enough club as short is bad on this green.
-
The finishing hole is with another elevated green.
007’s Rating
As we have stayed for 5 days so I was able to I played the Jade course twice, I can definitely attest that playing off the blue tee is much harder than white here, unless you are long & straight, stick to the easier white tee at least for the first time or you will lose lots of balls and…..confidenece. Even professional veteran golfer LU Wen-teh believes it is much more challenging than the Rainbow course after his round at the Jade Valley.
There are some big construction for exhibition halls & hotels on the side of few holes (should finish by mid 09), although the noise was kept low, it still spoiled the nice and quite scenery, hope all the works will be done quickly so it will return to normal again.
There are 36 holes available at the club, a more friendly Rainbow and the tougher Jade Valley, a new & quality phase 3 hotel and lots of beautiful sight seeing to do, Huangshan definitely worth a visit and there are enough things to keep you busy or relax for few days.
