Introduction
Had a chat with one of our members during a round & asked her which course she believed to be the best she played in China, she put her little thumb up & said – Junan is the best. That good? And I was there to check it out myself the following week…
To get there from Hong Kong, you will need to take a 2 hour ferry to Shunde from China Hong Kong City, TST & a 40 minutes ride by car or taxi.
Club Facilities & Service
Sizeable club house with decent facilities, staff are polite and friendly. Food was also very nice (Chefs from Shunde are the best from the country, have to give them a try!).
Fairway & Green maintenance
Tip-top condition, as good as my old favourite Agile GC, landscaping was very nice too with beautiful flower beds along some of the fairways.
Caddy Service & knowledge
I used a grade A caddy who was reasonably knowledgeable about the course.
Course Design
Interesting & with lots of varieties, dogleg left, right, up & down hill, everything you expect to have on a golf course, you will find it here.
The main feature of the course is generous fairways & majority of the greens are elevated but they are relatively large with gentle slops.
Another local design golf course, well done!

-
A nice & easy starting hole with generous fairway.
The downslope approach is a little harder as you will need to land softly on the elevated green with big bunker on the front left.
-
Another elevated green on this par 3.
-
A big dogleg left, check your yardage with the caddy as you may get into the big bunker in the middle of the fairway.
The approach is uphill.
-
This is a signature hole as I am sure you will not ‘forget’ the unusual design.
The tee shot should go to the blue arrow (200 yards minimum), if you are short – go to the right a bit.
You can give the 2nd a try to land on the green but there will be lots of water to carry.
Alternatively, you can lay up in front of the water, leaving a 140 yards shot to the green, protected by a front bunker.
-
A gentle dogleg to the right about 210 yards out.
The approach is slightly up the slope onto a elevated green.
-
The green of this par 3 is elevated…again.
-
A slightly upslope par 4, it will be ideal if you can lean to the left but not too much left (water).
The approach is upslope too. -
You need at least 180 -190 yards to reach the turn of the big dogleg right.
Water is on your left side with bunkers guarding the elevated green.
-
A gentle downslope par 5, water is on the left.
Watch out for the a small stream that run across the fairway about 100 yards or so in front of the green.
-
A dogleg left par 4 going gently uphill.
-
Dogleg left, need 200 plus to get over the water & bunker or lay up left a bit if you are short .
The green slopes from back to front with 2 drops, check where you want to land the approach.
-
Need to land your tee shot softly on this elevated par 3.
-
Water is on the right side of the fairway, the green is elevated….again with a big front right bunker.
-
Lean your tee shot to the left on this one as if you are too right & short, you may not be able to see the green.
-
An interesting but dangerous par 5.
The fairway is split by a big bunker into 2, if you have a good drive, you will be tempted to reach the green in 2…..but the catch is you will need to fly quite a bit over water to an elevated green with lots of bunkers……what’s your choice?
-
A long par 4 going upslope all the way to the green.
-
A medium length par 3.
-
A beautiful long par 5 with lots of landscaping & flower beds.
Trouble all on the right side, need to be careful of the lay up as there is another small steam that run across the fairway.
007’s Rating
To sum up, this is one beautiful golf course, interesting design course, nicely maintained, lovely landscaping, the only imperfection I can think of were the lighting poles dotted around the course……….but there again, nothing is prefect, I suppose, specially you want to have a hit in the evening.
