Introduction
Located on the edge of Huizhou City (1hr 30mins from Huanggang border), Lakefront is the latest addition to the Huizhou area’s list of courses.
The impressive looking hotel/clubhouse is the first thing you notice from the road. Decent rooms(1, 2) are available for booking. Like every new club in China, the course is part of a larger housing development project and a number of lake side villas are also under construction.
Club Facilities & Service
The clubhouse is well decorated and furnished. Both changing room(1, 2, 3, 4) and lockers are considered to be huge in size. Remember to check out the jaccuzi(1, 2, 3), it’s nice. Massage services(1, 2, 3) can be found at 2nd floor. The restaurant (1, 2) is opened, Warning: the menu is in Chinese only so it’s definitely worth learning how to ask for your favourite food beforehand because, from my experience at least, the staff’s knowledge of English is even worse than my Mandarin. Driving range is in operation. .
Fairway & Green maintenance
The fairways are in good shape. The greens are now back to normal since last November when they were inflected by some kind of virus. (July 2009)
Caddy Service & knowledge
Also very good. Mine understood a bit of English but it was her green reading skills and concerns over maintenance that impressed me. Unlike at some other clubs, Lakefront’s caddies make sure they fix any pitch marks they see which is partly why the conditions were so good.
Course Design
It’s not a natural beauty (a few holes run alongside a busy road) but it’s very, very good. From the blue tees it only measures 6,200 yards or so but the main difficulty lies in finding the relatively narrow landing areas. Taking 3 woods and long irons is a good tactic to use – after all, all the par 4s measure under 400 yards. Water comes into play quite a bit (especially on the par 3s) and the large greens feature quite a bit of slope. The back nine holes are floodlit for night golf.

Index 13
Par 5 that not many will reach in two. The main difficulty is the second shot to a narrowing fairway.
-
Index 7
N ice hole this one. Water left and right so miss this fairway and you’ll be struggling. Green is one of the most undulating on the course.
-
Index 1Sharp dogleg left. From the back tees this is a beast but from the friendly blues it’s only really a 3 wood and a mid iron.
-
Index 15
Prettiest hole on the course. If you’re going to hit driver make sure it’s accurate. Trouble on the right.
-
Index 17
Very short par 3 – only requires a PW or SW. Water shouldn’t be in play (famous last words).
-
Index 5
Difficult approach – uphill to a small, angled green. Don’t go right.
-
Index 11
Greenside bunker is relatively deep. Right of the bushes is water so don’t hit it there and expect to find it….from previous experience.
-
Index 9
Incredibly tight at the kink of the fairway….time for that 3 wood again.
-
Index 3
Nice, straightaway par 5. Not too much trouble.
-
Index 16
Stay left on the drive otherwise you’ll be left with a blind shot.
-
Keep your drive on the straight and narrow and this is a potential birdie hole!
-
One of the harder par 4s out here. Keep the drive to the left if you can – better line into the green.
-
Index 2
Take a 3 wood and aim for the row of short trees in the middle of the picture. The approach must flirt with the lake and the green is heavily sloping. One of the more tricky holes on the course.
-
Index 18
Very short par 5. Good drive here will leave a fairway wood to the green. Entrance to the putting surface isn’t the widest so better make sure it’s accurate.
-
Index 14
Very dangerous hole. Needless to say: take more club just to make sure.
-
Index 4
Tricky dogleg left. Fairway tightens considerably so pull out the 3 wood again.
-
Index 8
Green is flat – just make sure to take enough club.
-
Index 12
Drive and second must be played uphill so take more club.
007’s Rating
It is among the best conditions in the province. I for one will definitely return. Lakefront is close to Palm Island so it might be a good idea to play both whilst in the area.
The services and attitude of the staffs are good especially those receptionists and staffs from restaurant.
