Introduction

Always wanted to check out Taiwan for its golf courses & well known snacks from the street vendors but for some reasons never made it….. but this time a good Taiwanese friend specially arranged 2 golf courses for me to test play….. so here we go!

According to my friend, Miramar opened for business in 1994 and is regarded the best golf course in Taiwan, it is only around 45 minutes drive from Taipei and 30 minutes from the international airport.

Club Facilities & Service

May be I was expecting a lot from one of the best clubs of Taiwan….I was a little disappointed when I arrived & found the club a ‘bit’ old & dated, fortunately, everything else were nice & clean and the service of the staff were really friendly. Here are some photos of the restaurant, reception, proshop & the locker room(1, 2, 3).

Fairway & Green maintenance

Miramar-Condition
Both fairways & green were in decent shape.

Caddy Service & knowledge

Unlike mainland China, most Taiwanese courses offer 1 caddie serving 4 players basic service, (players may need to rake bunkers & replace divots), the one we had was really efficient & very knowledgeable about the course.

Course Design

Miramar-DesignTake a look at the familiar bunkering, you can almost tell this is another Jack Nicklaus design.

The B course is a mountain course with lots of elevation changes so you can enjoy some breathtaking views of the scenery, the fairways are separated by mature trees & lakes and vary with some exciting right & left doglegs, the more short par 3 B2 andthe par 5 B8 are quite challenging but fun to play.

Due to the fairly generous fairways and shorter distance off the blue tee scorecard (front nine 3,149 & back 3,173, a total of only 6,322 yards), it was not too tough even for a weekend hacker like me.
