Introduction
Heard this club for quite a while and I was wondering this figure 225 holes, isnt it the biggest in the world?. But due to their low profile, know very little about it. Finally I’ve got a chance to have better understanding of it. China Eastern Airline and our travel department cohosted two Test Play tour in Nov2006.
Soon I found out this massive development is done by one of the Top 500 China Enterprises – Nanshan Group. Besides golf, they have all sort of investment in the area such as properties, aluminium, education, medical, tourism …….etc
These 12.5 courses has already been completed in Septemeber 2006. The golf resort is divided into two area : Nanshan area with 6.5 courses : Nanshan International course, Countryside Maner course, Budda Light course, Holyland & Sunshine course, Mountain Lakeview course and Genting & Forest course. Donghai area with 6 courses : Montgomerie course, Pine Canyon Course, Seaview course, Seasight course, Seashore course and Seawave course.
From Hong Kong to Yantai, the flying time is around 3.5 hours. And it took 1.5 hour from the airport to the club.
Unfortuantely, due to time restrict, I could only played 5.5 courses. The first I would like to introduce to you is the oldest course – 27 holes Nanshan International course (3 years).
Club Facilities & Service
In Nanshan area, each course is served by a separate clubhouse. This one(1, 2, 3, 4, 5) is not big but adequate. Lobby, changing room, reception, proshop(1, 2) are situated at the ground floor while the lounge and restaurant are on the first floor. Not elegant but neat and tidy. Staffs are well trained with good manner and services. The restaurant mainly serves Chinese and Korean food. Not bad though and very inexpensive price. The only complaint is the shower. Hot water running inconsistency.
Fairway & Green maintenance
Very good especially the green Soft and smooth. You may see some routine maintainence in the course photos which may affect the visual.
Caddy Service & knowledge
A lot of new caddies, dont expect too much.
Course Design
Consisted of three nine holes : A(1-9)、 B(10-18), C(19-27).
This undulating course includes doglegs, long carry holes, island green, blindshot , long and short holes. Pretty interesting to play.
C course is short and tight, small greens, consider to be the tougest. B course required long carries and plenty of elevation. A course is comparitively generous with wider fairways and bigger greens.

007’s Rating
Good combination of layout (AB course), not easy though if you play off the blue (6964 yards). White is more enjoyable for most average players. C course is the most difficult but a bit unreasonable. Conidition is above average. There are plenty hotels rated from 2 to 5 stars in this resort. We stayed at this 3 stars Golf Resort(1, 2, 3, 4). reasonably good but the bathroom always flooded after shower. Staff are nice. The downside is, there is no restaurant nor entertainment in here.
For dining and entertainment, you may travel to the Recreation Centre(1, 2, 3, 4) (foot massgae, body massage, supermarket, three restaurants), Convention Hotel(1, 2), or to downtown (20mins). Beware of the working hours of these restaurant. Usually they closed at 8pm. Otherwise, cup noodles is your only choice. Out of expect, food is quite tasty here especially seafood. Cheap and cheerful!
I’m quite disappointed that, there is no inhouse transport in this resort, for which facilities are spread all over the place. Very inconvience.
If you care for sightseeing, there is not much historic spot for visiting. The most famous are Penglai(1, 2, 3, 4), Ocean World, Nanshan Budda , temple(1, 2, 3). And I found this lovely Mr Bean type Taxi in Penglai.
