Review Summary:

This is a challenging golf course, may be this is why LPGA & major winner Yani Tseng is playing so well (she was trained from the academy here and plays with the junior golfers when in town), you definitely need to have good control of your swing and golf ball to do well, course knowledge will help too as it is difficult to select the right club on certain holes if you are new to the course.

Introduction

The club opened for business in 1992 and it is only 45 minutesdrive from Taipei and 20 minutesfrom the international airport.

Club Facilities & Service

This is a massive project with 83 guest rooms, international standard conference & entertainment facilities and restaurants and golf is only part of the big development.

The championship golf course is designed by well known architect Robert Trent Jones, II and has held numerousnational tournaments. The service of staff at the proshop, starter, restaurant & locker room(1, 2) were all fairly good & attentive.

Fairway & Green maintenance

Sunrise-Condition
Fairway were in good shape but the greens were under maintenance.

Caddy Service & knowledge

Our caddy was really good & very knowledgeable of the course.

Course Design

Sunrise-Design
This is a tougher mountain course, a bit similar to Pine Valley at Zhuhai and Wind Valley, lots of big elevation changes and fairways are tighter and can be unforgiving, the front 9 are mostly uphill while the back 9 winds back downhill, due to the longer distance off the blue tee (front 3,302 & back 3,308, total 6,610 yards) scorecard, you really have to have your A game in order to score well here….

One last thing, the club has a small museum which showcases some of Taiwan’s golf history & elite players, well worth to checking out.
