Introduction
After my first round at the nice Long Thanh Golf Club, the 2nd round of my itinerary is this Vietnam Golf & Country club, located only 20 kms which is the closest course to the city centre. The club has 2 courses, the East course is designed by six majors winner Lee Trevino while the West course is designed a lesser known Taiwanese designer Mr. Chen King Shih, I have never played a Lee Trevino course, so obviously my choice was the East course.
Fairway & Green maintenance
When I was at the course, they just completed setting up both of the courses for the Vietnam Open so the course was recovering. I was told by the caddie that in 1 to 2 weeks the course would be in top shape.
Caddy Service & knowledge
The best caddy I have had for years! Speaks very good English, know the course inside & out, very professional.

-
A nice opening gentle dogleg right par 5, note that there is water on the right when you make your approach to the green.
-
A solid drive is needed to set you up a good approach to a very undulating green.
-
A fairly simple par 3 with a slightly elevated green.
-
There is a small creek that run across the fairway…..watch out.
-
There is water on the right on this short par 4.
-
A long par 5 , solid contacts are needed on all clubs to reach this in 3.
-
A medium long stright forward par 4.
-
A slightly downslope par 3, the green has a bit of slope built into it.
-
A fairly stright forward par 4.
-
# 10, Par 5, blue tee – 504 yards, index 3.
Not a difficult par 5….only if you can aviod those hugh & well placed bunkers.
-
A split fairway, caddy asked me to take the longer but safer route (on the right), I listened of course, but still ended up with a bogey , not his fault though as my drive faded right and ended under a tree.
-
What you see is what you get here, with just 1 lone bunker on the left side of the green.
-
The dance floor is well protected by bunkers.
-
Water on the right of the teebox is not in play, the bunkers on the left further up the fairway are.
-
Depending on what you drive, water on the left and bunkers on the right also are.
-
A long par 5, need to good & accurate hits to avoid trees on either side of the fairway.
-
Sorry guys, forgot to take photo on this tee box.
-
Not a very dramatic finishing hole, is it?
007’s Rating
This is one of the older club in Vietnam and a nice one at that, although the club has no fancy decoration but everything was straight forward, the restaurant, proshop, locker(1, 2) and staff were also very hospitable.
I had a quick look at the West course(1, 2, 3) just before I left, it appears the course is a bit more tighter & possibly more changeling, it is also the Vietnam Open championship venue.
