Introduction
Just played this Colin Montgomery’s link style course again as the new club house is now ready to use so I made myself an excuse to go & check it out. The new club is spacious & very nicely decorated.
The club located at Zhuhai, which is only one hour & 10 minutes ferry away and a further 30 to 35 minutes ride away (about 100 RMB on Taxi) from the Zhuhai ferry terminal, the club will provide a free shuttle bus if there are enough players, the additional 9 holes is with lighting (27 now) is also ready, making the club one of the most convenient course to get to from Hong Kong.
Club Facilities & Service
As mentioned, the club house is very nice with a big Chinese & western restaurant, the service was reasonable good too.
Fairway & Green maintenance
Both fairways & greens were in prefect condition.
Caddy Service & knowledge
caddies are improving & provide decent information, service were good too.
Course Design
The course reminds me of the airport course at Shenzhen, both are relatively flat with little elevation changes but there are plenty of water & bunkers…..(I counted, 97 of them…..just from 1-18 holes…..they are big too!).
The course is long, from the blue tee, it’s 6,000 meters (about 6,600 yards), with the combination of water (most of them are on either side of the fairway), bunkers makes this course quite hard to score well. The 19-27 holes are even longer with some doglegs. Finally, the course is very walker friendly, if the weather is not too hot, save your money on the cart & walk it.
Photos
-
332 meter par 4 from the blue tee, fairway bunkers are on either side, green is slightly elevated with bunker on either side too.
-
362 meters…..water is the left all the way to the green with a narrow neck.
-
A long Par 5, 498 meters, water is the right, while fairway bunkers are on the left……tough hole.
-
A short Par 4, only 282 meter. Difficult to get on in one as you will need to carry most of the way as the narrow green is ‘hidden’ behind 2 bunkers.
-
A short par 3, better left than right.
-
Long par 4, 2 big fairway bunkers are there to catch you.
-
S shape fairway, the one & only fairway to have a chance to get on in 2…for me anyway but the 2nd will be very testing as you will need to fly the ball a long way to clear the water.
-
A shot par 3 with lots of greenside bunkers.
-
C shape fairway, lots of fairway & greenside bunkers again!
-
A slight doglegright par 4, surprise, surprise, fairway bunkers are on either side of the lading area again.
-
One of the few fairways without water in play…..sort of anyway. This is a slightly upslope fairway with lots of bunkers.
-
Dogleg Left, water & bunkers are in play all the way.
-
A nice par 3, an elevated green with 2 big front bunkers.
-
A long & generous fairway, difficulty lies with the bunkers round the green.
-
Water is on the left, the narrow green is guarded by 3 front bunkers.
-
Fairway bunkers on the right, have to lay up & approach the green.
-
Another simple hole….. if you can hit the ball straight as water is on the left.
-
A gentle dogleg left.

007’s Rating
The most impressive of the course is the color contrast between the beautiful lush green fairways against the lovely and long local red grass, very pleasing to the eyes and a prefect place to relax & play a nice round golf…….I just wish the course can have a bit more elevation changes as most of the fairway design is very similar……and wish those bunkers can be a bit smaller too : ) as there will be no room for big slice and hooks….to score well here…..you have practice more with your bunker shots beforehand, as with any link course, if the wind is up, the course will play much harder.
The new 9 holes with lighting is very nice & convenient for those who wants to play in the Summer or wish to tee off in the evening.
