        Don’t understand. Some Asian LPGAs could hit 280 yards despite they are not particularly tall. How would you weight the following factors that make them long hitters (as versus say male amateurs)?

        * flexibility
        * muscle strength
        * swing mechanics
        * tailor made clubs
        * superior equipment (e.g. not available in mass market)
        * others?

        The Lag…so far I don’t see many (including myself) can properly perform the Lag. I can hit straight but never good at distance because I found myself always casting the club. Anyone have good advise on how to properly perform the Lag?

        The key is definitely the turn (unwinding). You may classified it as the “swing mechanic”. Weekend golfers focus mainly on the upper body move so it is not easy to have similar distance as the pros.

        How to drive longer?
        Easy. Put on some music. turn on the air conditioner. Full tank of gasoline. And just keep driving and driving and driving….

        I believe heap turn or swing mechanics is the key. I saw a fellow am driving 250+ even with a half swing. By law of physics height + flexibility + muscle will give you more power but to an am, if you are not transferring energy effectively on the swing then all advantages are wasted. Easier said than done, I wish I can drive anywhere near 280y 😳

        I have met two amateurs at KSC North. Both of them are Chinese and could easily hit 280Y+. One is 17 yrs old, ht around 5ft 6, wt 140 pounds (I think). A student of KSC. Used R9 Super Max with Tour AD (S flex) shaft (forgot the model). He said the arm motion at the hit point and follow-through are the key. At N1, his second shot was at the 200Y mark. I have practised these two key points for months and could manage the consistency, not the distance. Not a bad one. The other one was even better. He is much stronger at a height of around 5ft 8, age around 30. He still played with 3I. His driver is Titlelist (S flex) and could hit 300Y+. At both N9 and N10 (blue tee next to the kiosk), he could do “two on”. He learned in US. He said that he focused on his body turn and the point of contact. His score at back nine was one under (at white tee). I don’t know them but learned a lot from these two rounds. Happy golfing.

        Thanks for your comments.

        Recently I watched Michelle Wie’s driving and found that her extended follow through could ensure body (and club head) was still accelerating during impact. Although her flexibility cannot be readily imitated I think I can first try a lesser back swing (e.g. 3/4 quarter swing) but more follow through. Hope it works.

        This is a swing analysis for Hoh, which will give more information on the follow through (for hitting longer) among others. I watched this on Golf Channel when he won a PGA touranment months ago. I have been practising his “extended” follow-through (not his twist) and found it useful. It is also available on youtube for sharing.

        Thanks (nice cooking background sound :->)

        His body is very flexible. Can’t imitate him keeping straight arms pre and post impact – noted that post impact his left arm did not bend until it swings back to shoulder level, this is even more difficult than keeping right arm straight during backswing.

        Could you please share how you grip and how your wrist action takes place while you swing your club as hard as possible?

        U got it all wrong, they are all pros,making a living out of golf, hitting 400 balls every day, they have been trained at very young age.
        we ,as weekend players can only imitate amateur / junor champions.Even HK pros are levels way ahead of us.
        the only way is to have coaching when young, learn the flex,body turn + ffollow through.
        I have seen youngers start with just swing the club without hitting the ball for a month.
        it is the shoulder turn not the arm that leads to hitting the ball.
        But these are all friction to me, I am too old to learn all over again.Golf will be my weekend excerise,doing my best will do.

        Most golfers incl. the amateurs are pursuing perfection even though they know the mountain is too high for them and yet keep trying. Me too. That is what the enchantment of golf lies.

        I am not looking for perfection – just a reasonable distance in correct format that will not hurt myself. I still remember the days of rubbing ointments / golf elbow after each practice / round…

        this driving for longer distance is still always on every golfs’ mind,it is the force that push us every weekend
        to play better.Either getting new drivers when new model comes out ( more distance is a big marketing tools)
        or going to practice to make oneself
        better body turn . It is the only way that get me doing stretches days before a game.
        Yes it ‘ll keep us going for more. So play golf is so enchanting.

        I think you are right….and the air flow could potentially increase the moment of inertia (MOI) of the driver. Taylormade could very well be having this in their next new line of golf clubs – – – the F.A.R.T Driver.
